Jordan Fellows will lead within and beyond their educational environments as they advocate for public education, host professional development sessions, lead initiatives at their schools, and mentor other aspiring teacher leaders. Teachers are given a stipend as part of their participation in the program as this professional learning happens outside of contract time.
Why Teacher Leadership?
Teacher leadership is important because it keeps talented educators in the classroom while leveraging their expertise to improve teaching, student learning, and school culture. Teacher leaders foster collaboration, drive instructional improvement, and help implement school and district initiatives. They serve as role models, support colleagues, and ensure that teacher and student voices are included in decision-making. This distributed leadership strengthens schools, increases teacher retention, and leads to better outcomes for students and educators.
